As a heads up, snow tubing is available at the Kids Park! However, today, the freshly fallen snow (1 to 2 cm) provided just enough resistance that the tubes weren’t sliding easily. In fact, I watched as a mother from Aichi prefecture gave the tube a strong push at the starting point, only to see her child (pictured) tumble right out of the tube!

Interestingly enough though, it was smooth skiing on the slopes! The Ikenota Slope and Ipponmatsu Course, with their well-packed groomed wet snow surfaces and light dusting of 1 to 2cm of fresh snow, allowed for smooth turns and enjoyable runs! While there were moments of light sunshine, as seen in the first photo, the weather generally turned snowy with north winds carrying the snowflakes after the resort opened.

The Rabbit and Snake slopes were also topped with 1 to 2cm of fresh snow on top of firm, groomed wet snow bases. A group of three visitors from Itoigawa City (pictured) mentioned, “We always check your site! We’re season pass holders for Cortina & Hakunori. Today, we came to ski with our company ski team.”

Around 9 a.m., the snow started coming down more heavily. A couple from Australia (pictured, foreground) told me, “After staying in Nozawa for a week, we’ll be in Hakuba for the next week. Australian ski resorts are often icy, but Japan’s resorts have this fluffy snow, which is really great. Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba offers excellent service and atmosphere – we feel like movie stars!”
