This morning, I found myself ascending above the clouds on the Alps No. 3 Pair Lift, which started operating as scheduled, at 8:00 a.m. sharp. The lower section of the Highway Course (pictured) featured groomed “powder-like” wet snow with a 2 to 3 cm layer of fresh snow, and was set to host the Osaka Ski Technical Championship / All-Japan Ski Technical Championship Osaka Qualifier and the Osaka Junior Ski Technical Championship later in the day.

I had a conversation with the first person on the lift, a snowboarder from Tokyo (pictured), who mentioned, “I always read your reports! I’m a HAKUBA VALLEY season pass holder. I decided to take it easy today and came to Hakunori, but there’s quite a long line at the lift.” With the two aforementioned competitions plus the Chanmero Freeride event taking place, the Wakaguri area was bustling with activity.

A rider from the Chanmero Freeride event that I crossed paths with commented that they were a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I’m about to ski the Cross Course with a group of elementary school kids” before they swiftly rode down the course together. Both the Rabbit Course, with its well-packed, powdery wet snow surface and 2 cm layer of fresh snow, and the Wakaguri Central Slope, with similarly firm powder-like wet snow, were in excellent, easy-to-ski condition.

Going back to the morning, some parents from Kanagawa and Ueda City shared, “We always use Snownavi! The kids are participating in the Chanmero Freeride session on the Snake Course.” Last night, more snow fell in Otari Village than in Hakuba Village, and they were able to enjoy about 30 cm of fresh powder on the ungroomed sections of the Rabbit and Snake courses.
