Akakura Onsen REPORT

2025.01.27295 cm / Cloudy

At 8:10 a.m., while waiting near the boarding area for the Kumado No. 1 Quad, I witnessed four grooming machines returning in sequence after completing final course preparations. The Panorama Course (pictured), where the snow that accumulated on 1/25 (Sat.) and 1/26 (Sun.) had been mixed and pressed into the groomed surface, offered a moderately firm wet snow surface with a pleasant powdery texture. My edges gripped well, and my skis glided smoothly, and the conditions made for an enjoyable ride.

The north-facing Utopia A Course (pictured) offered pleasantly soft powder snow conditions! The smooth sensation of skiing on powder transmitted through my skis and boosted my excitement. The ungroomed sections along the sides of the course were marked with numerous ski tracks, but still maintained a light and soft snow texture, making them fun and easy to ski.

The Family Slope and Sekimi Slope were groomed with powder-like wet snow, similar to the Panorama Course. On the Slalom Course and Central Downhill Course, the groomed surface was a mix of wet and powder snow that had started to soften slightly. From around 9:00 a.m., the slopes began to buzz with activity, with many international visitors adding to the lively atmosphere.

A gentleman from Australia (pictured), who had just descended the moderately soft groomed powder surface of the Utopia B Course (pictured), said, “Did you get a photo of me skiing? You’re with Snownavi, right? I’ll check it out later!” The calm, overcast skies presented stunning views of Mt. Myoko (2,454m, pictured, center background, Mt. Madarao (1,382m), and the Sea of Japan.
