Thick clouds and heavy snowfall! Dry snow started falling yesterday evening, and had intensified by morning as the winter pressure pattern continued to strengthen. Additionally, the mid-to-upper areas of the ski resort were shrouded in dense fog, significantly reducing visibility. Everywhere, I could hear skiers saying, “It’s all white!” and “Too foggy!”
[Panorama Course]

The Panorama Course (pictured) had well-compacted groomed wet snow with a light layer of 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow. My skis glided smoothly, and I noticed snow spray rising high behind those cruising down. As I was about to head up to the upper slopes, an announcement was made that the opening of lifts above the Alpen Quad and Skyline 2vPair would be delayed due to adverse weather conditions.

The Panorama Beginner Course (pictured) had a moderately firm wet snow base with about 5 cm of light fresh snow on top, making for smooth and easy riding. Descending to the middle section of Olympic Course II brought me below the clouds. Olympic II had firm, medium-to-large moguls with 5 to 10 cm of light fresh snow on top, while the Sakka Slope and Sakka Wave also had firm, groomed wet snow surfaces with a light layer of 3 to 5 cm of fresh snow.

By the way, an exhibition showcasing the excitement of the Freeride World Tour (FWT) is being held as part of “HAKUBA Freeride Week” through 2/1 (Sat.) at Snow Peak Land Station Hakuba (pictured).
