Yesterday morning, Happo’s official base depth was reported at 340 cm, but with relentless snowfall, it had surged to 390 cm by midday and reached a season-high of 440 cm this morning! 100 cm of snow in 24 hours is truly something else. Seeing cars completely buried in snow at the base, Usagidaira Terrace almost fully submerged, and the perfectly untouched surface of the Usagidaira Slope (pictured) had my excitement through the roof even before making my first turn!

The area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair lift line (pictured) was, of course, completely covered in deep, fluffy new snow. A skier coming towards me (pictured) called out, “I love Snownavi! Wow, it’s deep—this is the best!” With such deep powder, it was a common sight today to see only the tips of fat skis peeking above the snow surface!

Cheers rang out across the slopes as skiers reveled in the incredible floatation of bottomless powder. Despite the thick fog, a light northerly wind, and heavy snowfall reducing visibility, nothing could dampen the excitement! The ungroomed eastern side of the Skyline Course was also buried under 60 to 70 cm of fluffy new snow.

In the deep, ungroomed powder areas on the mid-to-upper slopes, many skiers found themselves struggling to get back up after a fall. On the area alongside the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and the central section of the Skyline Course, 20 to 25cm of fresh, fluffy snow covered a moderately-packed groomed powder base. Meanwhile, the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track, Sakka Wave, and Sakka Slope had 5 to 10 cm of light new snow on top of a moderately tight, groomed powder surface.
