“Even at the base of the Shirakaba Slope, you can see how much fresh snow we got!” was the comment from a TSUGA POW DBD staff member (pictured). They added, “I always check your reports. I came to ride during my day off. The fresh snow is deep, so let’s be careful and have fun. It looks like the wind is strong at the top of the resort, but hopefully, the gondola will keep running.” The relentless snowfall that started yesterday morning showed no signs of letting up even today!

After stepping off the gondola, which started operating almost on schedule, I headed to the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) since the Tsuga No. 2 Pair was delayed due to strong winds and snow removal. The groomed areas had 5 to 8 cm of fresh, light snow on a moderately-packed groomed powder surface, while dropping into the ungroomed area along the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad offered a plush 30 to 50 cm of fresh snow, creating an incredible floating sensation!

I figured with conditions like this, the Champion Slope was bound to be fantastic! So, after the Champion Quad started running at 8:55 a.m., I dropped into the ungroomed section and found 50 cm of fresh powder! With fewer people here compared to other slopes, it was the perfect spot to keep lapping.

I met a skier from Shizuoka (pictured), who said, “I always check your reports! I took today and tomorrow off after seeing the forecast, hoping for powder—and I hit the jackpot! Champion is uncrowded and the slope angle is great, so it’s a blast.” Over at the Oya-no-hara Slope, a light 5 to 7cm layer of fresh snow sat atop a moderately firm, powdery groomed surface.
