REPORT

This morning, I spoke with a skier from Matsumoto (pictured), who told me, “I always read your reports! The snow looked too good to pass up, so I took the morning off to come ski. I’ll enjoy the powder until around noon, then head to work.” Down at the base, the snowfall had lightened to just a few flurries.
[Oya-no-hara]

The entire length of the Oya-no-hara Slope had soft groomed powder snow, and was so enjoyable that I almost wanted to take another run if time allowed. Of course, the upper part of the ski resort (pictured) had perfectly pressed, top-notch powder grooming! The off-piste area of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope had been fully reset with a blanket of 30 to 40 cm of new snow.

Knowing that, there was no way I could skip the steep, ungroomed Uma-no-se Course (1,300m, max 32°, avg 17°). The northwest wind on the upper part of the ski resort fluctuated in strength, creating snowdrifts and mounds early on, turning parts of the course into a natural banked slalom. In the middle section (pictured) the new snow totaled as much as 60 to 70 cm, and I was able to experience an amazing floating sensation!
[Uma-no-se Course]

The final section of the Uma-no-se ridge (pictured) narrows, increasing the difficulty, but this morning, there were no moguls, and plenty of fresh snow had accumulated, making it easier to ski than usual. Below, on the Shirakaba Slope, the northern section from the beginning to the middle was sectioned off, with preparations underway for the NSD Cup Tsugaike Junior CUP Giant Slalom Tournament, which begins tomorrow.
