Today, 2/1 (Sat.), the Chanmero Freeride Omusubi OPEN is set to take place on the steep, ungroomed Omusubi Slope (pictured). I spoke with a staff member who commented, “Two days worth of fresh snow remains untouched on the slope. These are perfect conditions for the competition.” Meanwhile, on the nearby Panorama Beginner Course, athletes were carefully inspecting the face in preparation for their runs.

The sky was calm and overcast, and the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the southern route of Usagidaira, and the Skyline Course all featured moderately packed groomed powder surfaces that made for a smooth and enjoyable ride. I ran into a group of three skiers from Tokyo who shared “We always check your reports. The slope conditions are great and easy to ski today.” The groomed Shirakaba and Sakka Slopes also had moderately firm groomed powder bases.
