The day started with windless, overcast skies. I spoke with a mother from Kyoto (pictured, center) who shared, “We’re staying at Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba tonight. Since the hotel is directly connected to the slopes, it’s great that we can return quickly if we feel like taking a nap. My younger child (pictured, right) loves the Ikenota Slope!”

Another family from Kanagawa (pictured) shared, “We always follow your reports! It’s our first time at Cortina. We stayed for two nights hoping for powder, but we missed it this time.” (So close! Tomorrow morning might be a powder day.) The well-packed powder on the groomed Mt. Hieda Forest Course and Itadaira Course (pictured) made for smooth and enjoyable turns.

The Mt. Hieda Course 1, with its moderately firm surface and moguls, was also easy to ski. The Ikenota and Ipponmatsu Slopes (pictured) were in excellent condition, with the upper groomed runs maintaining a similarly well-packed powder surface, perfectly showcasing the overall quality of the recent conditions.

By the way, this weekend, from 2/8 (Sat.) to 2/9 (Sun.), the major event JAPAN FREERIDE OPEN (JFO) 2025 will take place. Additionally, the Ikenota base area will host an Island Joy Test Ride Event (free participation, ID required). I ran into some teachers from the Cortina Ski School, who told me, “We love Snownavi! He (pictured, second from left) is a Canadian mogul skier. We’ve been practicing together lately.”
