Tsugaike REPORT

2025.02.04301 cm / Snowy

This morning, light, dry snow was falling steadily from a slightly brightened sky. I spoke with a skier from Nagano’s Okaya City (pictured), who shared, “I always check your reports! I just couldn’t stay away, so I took the day off work to come here. Oh, and since there’s a good chance of getting fantastic powder this week, I’m planning to come again on Friday.”

The run along the Han-no-Ki High-Speed Pair (pictured) had 2 to 4 cm of light, fresh snow resting on a well-packed groomed powder surface. With those conditions, my skis glided smoothly, allowing for precise, effortless turns. As for the new snow accumulation, the off-piste areas had about 15 cm, so still a bit on the lighter side!

I found 1 to 2 cm of light, fresh snow on top of a moderately firm, groomed surface on the forest road as I made my way to the lower part of the Uma-no-se Course. I enjoyed the fluffy sensation from the roughly 10 cm of light fresh snow settled over the firm uneven base on the lower part of Uma-no-se. On the Shirakaba Slope (pictured), where 3 to 5 cm of fresh snow coated the firm groomed powder base, I was able to pick up speed comfortably and glide with ease.

I wrapped up the day by indulging in untouched fresh snow on the unnamed offshoot near the final section of the Shirakaba Slope (pictured). By the way, Tsugaike is currently hosting the Tsugaike Mountain Challenge from 2/1 (Sat.) to 2/28 (Fri.) using the ski and snowboard app “Slopes.” The top 10 participants who log the most descent distance during the event will receive luxurious prizes!
