This morning, I ran into a local snowboarder from Hakuba (pictured), who excitedly said, “Oh, Snownavi! I can’t believe I ran into you here! I always check your updates. There wasn’t too much fresh snow in the village, but there’s a good amount up here at the top of Happo.” The spot he referred to as “here” was the ungroomed area on the north side of the Kurobishi 3 Pair, known as “Urakuro.” Strong winds carried snow and fog, making visibility challenging.

On Urakuro (pictured), a soft layer of 40 to 45 cm of fresh snow had accumulated, with a somewhat firm, uneven base beneath. However, once I picked up speed and gained flotation, there was no bottoming out at all. While cheers and sprays of powder filled the air along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, untouched lines on Urakuro remained for an extended time, preserving the pristine powder.

Snow removal took longer than expected, delaying the start of the Kurobishi 3 Pair, while the Kurobishi Quad operated at reduced speed with intermittent stops due to strong winds. On the Skyline Course (pictured), the fresh snowfall measured 15 to 20 cm in the ungroomed areas and 5 to 10 cm on the groomed sections. The base was moderately soft on both the ungroomed and groomed terrain.

In the ungroomed area above the glamping zone on Kitaone, which drops in from the Skyline forest road (pictured), 20 to 30 cm of light new snow had accumulated. The upper section required weaving through sparse low trees, while the more open middle-to-lower sections allowed for large, fast turns with an incredible floating sensation.
