Once again, the JPCZ (Japan Sea Convergence Zone) has brought snow clouds to the area. These clouds, forming over the Hokuriku region, brought exceptionally heavy snowfall from last night to this morning, resulting in Happo’s official base depth reaching an impressive 520 cm! By the way, the object in the background of the photo that looks like a wall of snow is the moving belt at the Nakiyama Snowland, located in the Nakiyama base area of Happo.

The moving belt at Nakiyama Snowland, with its lower half completely buried in snow and the upper half covered with it as well, had a unique atmosphere inside (pictured). Even on such a heavy snowfall day, both kids and adults can enjoy the comfort of riding it without getting snowed on, and while keeping their skis or snowboards on. Additionally, the “Mogu Mogu Hiroba” at Nakiyama Snowland features food trucks that open daily starting at 11:00 a.m., even on snowy days.

Dry snow was coming down hard across the slopes, and snow removal work for the lifts above the Alpen Quad and Skyline 2 Pair caused a delay in their operation. On the Panorama Course (pictured), I enjoyed the feeling of gliding through the 10 to 20 cm of light, new snow on top of the moderately firm, groomedf powder snow surface.

I spoke with a skier from Aichi Prefecutre, who had just come down from the Olympic Course II, where 40 to 50 cm of new snow had accumulated, and was told, “It’s amazing how deep the fluffy new snow is. It’s so much fun!” The Sakka Slope (pictured) had a nicely compacted, groomed powder snow base with 15 to 20 cm of light new snow. By the way, this weekend, on 2/8 (Sat.) and 2/9 (Sun.), there will be a “Free Yuki-ita Experience Event” in front of Snow Plaza Sakka. (*Free participation, reservation required on the first day.)
