The season’s strongest and longest cold wave brought heavy snowfall starting on 2/4 (Tue.), pushing the official snow depth past the 400 cm mark on 2/5 (Wed.)! But the snowfall didn’t let up there, and the base reached an incredible 460 cm this morning. Eager to chase powder, I decided to head for the upper areas, only to hear an announcement that snow-clearing operations were taking longer than expected, causing a significant delay for Line-C…

So I made my way to the lower part of Route 1 (pictured), where the well-packed groomed powder surface was topped with 25 to 30 cm of slightly wind-pressed fluffy new snow. Even with some light fog, which luckily didn’t hinder visibility too much, skiers carving their way down couldn’t help but shout, “Awesome!” and “Wow!!”

Route 7 had a moderately firm groomed powder surface with a soft, easy-to-ride texture, topped with 2 to 3 cm of light new snow. On the Line-8 gondola ride back up, a snowboarder from Matsumoto shared, “The bottom part of Route 1 was absolutely amazing! Must be tough covering reports in all this heavy snow, huh?”

Route 5 and Route 6 also had excellent conditions with a nice, firm groomed powder surfaces topped with 15 to 20 cm of light, simply fantastic new snow! Meanwhile, just like yesterday morning, Route 3 (pictured) was fully reset, with an impressive 50 to 60 cm of light new snow piled up towards the end. Line-C began operating at 10:30 a.m. today.
