Just two days after surpassing 500 cm on 2/6 (Thu.), today’s official base depth has already reached 595 cm, bringing the massive 600 cm milestone into sight. This morning, as dry snow continued to fall steadily, the Sakka Slope (pictured) had 7 to 10 cm of light new snow on top of a moderately firm, easy-to-ski groomed powder base.

With staff struggling to keep up with snow removal operations, the highest operating lifts this morning were the Sakka Kitaone Quad and the Kokusai 1 Pair. Powder seekers taking the former headed straight for the steep slope of Kitaone (pictured), where a deep 30 to 40 cm layer of fresh, fluffy snow had accumulated. Meanwhile, HAPPO PARKS, which had been closed for maintenance from 2/5 (Wed.) to 2/7 (Fri.), is scheduled to reopen today, though the start of operations for the Kitaone 3 Pair was delayed by over an hour.

On the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track (pictured) and Sakka Wave, a light 5 cm layer of fresh snow over nicely-packed groomed powder made for smooth and fast riding. On the way down, I met two locals from Hakuba who had just skied the Olympic Course II, who told me, “We always check your reports! It felt like there was about 50 cm of new snow. It was a bit on the heavier side, but the floating sensation was amazing.”

The Shirakaba Slope had 8 cm of light, fresh snow on top of a moderately firm, groomed powder surface, creating smooth and easy riding conditions. Before the upper lifts opened, the area was unusually lively, yet during my reporting (until around 10 a.m.), the wait times for the Shirakaba 1 Pair and Shirakaba 2 Pair lifts remained at just 2 to 3 minutes.
