Tsugaike REPORT

2025.02.08399 cm / Snowy

The season’s strongest and longest cold wave continues. This morning, I met a skier from Shizuoka’s Hamamatsu (pictured), who said, “I always check Snownavi! Yesterday at Happo, I waited three hours for the Alpen Quad to start running. So, I’m prepared to wait as long as needed today, too. Oh, how’s the fresh snow? Of course, it’s fluffy and feels amazing!”

While many visitors were waiting at the gondola base and mid-stations for lifts to start running after the heavy snowfall, I stepped out onto the Maruyama Slope (pictured), where a pristine, fluffy blanket of fresh snow stretched out before me—so breathtaking it left me speechless. A resort staff member commented, “There’s more than enough snow now. To be honest, I’m utterly exhausted from the endless shoveling.”

Carving through about 20 cm of light, fresh snow on the moderately soft, groomed powder of the Maruyama Slope felt absolutely incredible. Over on the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured), about 5 cm of dry, fresh snow had settled on top of the nice and soft, groomed powder surface, creating smooth and fast conditions, even on the gentle terrain.

I had a conversation with the father of a family visiting from Osaka (pictured, far right), who told me, “We come to Tsugaike two or three times a season for overnight stays. Tonight, we’ll be staying at Hotel Bellheart.” While I was out gathering information for my report, the wind gradually weakened, but the snowfall remained just as intense.
