Snownavi is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and this is the first time we’ve ever seen a base depth reach 600 cm—the official number reported by Happo today. One striking scene that illustrates the massive amount of snow is the area between the Alpen Quad and Sodeguro (pictured, top right), where the spacing between the trees has noticeably widened. With low temperatures continuing this morning, the trees were beautifully covered in frost.

Due to continued snowfall, the Alpen Quad and Grat Quad remained closed all day. Additionally, backcountry and mountaineering ticket sales were suspended due to the risk of avalanches outside the ski area. On the Panorama Course (pictured) and Panorama Beginner run, a light 2 to 3 cm layer of fresh snow sat on top of a moderately-packed powder base, allowing for smooth and enjoyable turns.

Even around the mid-mountain area near the Skyline 2 Pair, the unusually deep snowpack was evident. I spoke with a skier who had just descended the ungroomed area on the east side of Skyline, who commented, “This morning’s new accumulation was about 15 cm, but the soft base made for an incredibly smooth and enjoyable ride!”

I also had a chat with a pair of visitors from Kanagawa (pictured), who said, “We always check Snownavi! It’s a shame the upper lifts aren’t running, but the snow quality is fantastic and makes for an easy ride.” With consistently low temperatures preserving the dry snow, fresh flakes kept piling up, creating perfect powder conditions on both groomed and ungroomed terrain this morning from top to bottom.
