At the summit area this morning, dry, fast-falling snow was being carried by a strong north wind. Feeling the chill, I decided to warm up on the 3.3-kilometer-long Sunny Valley Course (max 24°, avg 11°). With 1 to 2 cm of light fresh snow on top of a moderately-packed, groomed powder surface, I enjoyed carving smooth, flowing turns.

The expansive South Slope had a layer of 2 to 3 cm of light fresh snow, and was easy to ski thanks to the moderately firm, groomed powder surface. I spoke with a family from Kanagawa (pictured) who shared, “We always take day trips to Hakuba for skiing. This is our first time at Iwatake this season, and the snow is fantastic—so easy to ski on!”

The ungroomed FIVE SIDE (pictured) had 25 to 30 cm of light fresh snow, allowing for an enjoyable powder run with occasional bottoming out on the soft undulating base below. Meanwhile, the IWATAKE SNOW PARK on the South Slope will be closed for remodeling from tomorrow through 2/14 (Fri.).

The groomed VIEW C Course (pictured) had 2 to 3 cm of light fresh snow on top of a nicely packed powder surface. A child (pictured) who ventured into the ungroomed side section, where 20 to 25 cm of fresh snow had accumulated, excitedly told their family, “There’s so much fresh snow, and it’s so fluffy!”
