Due to the strongest and longest cold wave of the season, which started on 2/4 (Tue.), the official snow depth at Kurohime Kogen Snow Park has dramatically increased from 190 cm to 300 cm! This morning, large snowflakes were still coming down hard. Snow removal and maintenance took some time, causing the No. 3 Lift (pictured) to start about 10 minutes later than its scheduled 9 a.m. opening time.

The gentle, groomed slope of the Sheep course (pictured) was covered with about 10 cm of light, fluffy new snow. I spoke with a mother from Nagano’s Suzaka City, who shared, “We visit Kurohime several times each season because of all the kids’ play equipment. But today, the snow is so deep and fluffy that it looks like the Strider (pictured) isn’t able to move forward.”

With the holiday, visitors arrived early. Both the groomed slopes of Leo and Monkey were covered with 10 to 20 cm of light, powdery new snow. On the ungroomed section of Monkey (pictured, front right), the combination of a soft base and light new snow created a fun, fluffy, floaty feel.

I had a conversation with a student from Shinshu University who told me, “I’m staying at Kurohime Kogen Hotel for two nights to practice for the student competition at Iwatake. I’m looking forward to seeing the seniors ski. By the way, the snow is incredible!” The snowfall showed no signs of slowing down throughout the day.
