Tsugaike REPORT

2025.02.14378 cm / Mostly Sunny

Tsugaike’s Champion Slope (pictured) is a vast, steep slope, stretching an impressive 350-meters wide and measuring 1,000-meters in length, with a maximum gradient of 35 degrees, an average of 26 degrees. Today it offered perfectly packed groomed powder snow with a flat finish that made an ideal ride! Carving wide, sweeping turns down the slope this morning was an exhilarating experience like no other.

What took the excitement to the next level was the untouched powder in the ungroomed area on the skier’s right side of the slope’s midsection (pictured). Due to strong winds, the Champion Quad, Gondola, and other lifts accessing the upper slopes were closed all day yesterday. This resulted in 15 to 20 cm of fresh snow layered over a soft base, creating perfect conditions for a satisfying powder run.

Members of the Waseda University Suga Ski Club (pictured) shared, “We’re here training for the All-Japan Student Iwatake Ski Tournament. We’re aiming for victory!” Another member added, “I always check your reports! Among the many ski clubs at Waseda University, I chose the Suga Ski Club because of its large membership and impressive competition record.”

Rewinding back to the early morning, reasonably strong northwest winds occasionally sent snow swirling at the top of the ski area. About 5 cm of fresh snow had accumulated along the edges of the groomed courses overnight. On the area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), the groomed slope had a moderately soft powder snow surface, while the mid-to-lower sections of Han-no-ki, as well as the Shirakaba, Karamatsu, and Oya-no-hara slopes, had moderately firm groomed powder bases. All courses offered very smooth and enjoyable riding conditions.
