Under a clear blue sky, the “Kurohime Wan Matsuri” kicked off today, and dog owners and their pets gathered in droves at the 7th and 8th pair lift stations. Despite a chilly start with temperatures as low as -6°C at 7:30 a.m. due to radiative cooling (pictured), the sunlight quickly raised the temperature, and by around 9 a.m., the morning had become pleasantly warm.

At the Dog Run, dogs of various breeds were running around joyfully. Rian-chan, from Ibaraki Prefecture (pictured), had a great time with her owner, who said, “This is our first time visiting, and we were surprised by how spacious the Dog Run is. We’re so happy to see so many dogs playing together.”

Chloe’s owner, from Aichi Prefecture, shared, “It’s rare to be able to ski together and let the dog play off-leash like this.” Tiger (pictured) and Weasel, accessed via the 8th Pair Lift, are hidden gems away from the busier Leo and Sheep slopes on weekends. They’re perfect for skiing with your dog, but also ideal for some quiet practice sessions.

From the 8th Pair Lift exit, the view of Mt. Kurohime and Mt. Myoko was stunning. A ski patroller shared, “Yesterday was sunny and warm, and it looks like it will be the same today, so the slopes might soften up.” On the freshly groomed Leo Slope (pictured), the powder-like wet snow made for smooth, enjoyable turns right from the start of the day.
