Early this morning skies were clear, but clouds began to move in from the west (pictured), and by around 8:30 a.m., the snowfall started in earnest. The groomed Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) had well-packed, damp snow conditions at the top, but as I skied down, the snow began to loosen up, transitioning into a softer feel.

A pair of instructors from the Tsugaike Ski School mentioned, “On weekends, we’re fortunate to have a full schedule with lessons all day. On quieter weekdays, we make sure to focus on our own personal training.” On the Maruyama Slope (pictured), with its moderately firm, groomed wet snow, small snowballs were visible where ski tracks had been carved into the surface, but I was still able to enjoy comfortable, smooth turns.

The Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) was groomed widely and had a perfectly packed wet snow surface. Around this time, the sky started to darken. By the way, the eastern side of the Central Parking Lot will be closed for snow removal from 2/25 (Tue.) to 2/28 (Fri.) and again from 3/3 (Mon.) to 3/7 (Fri.).

I spoke with a father from Ibaraki Prefecture, who said, “I’ve seen the Snownavi site before. You also sell advance discount lift tickets, right? We’re a group of two families staying here from yesterday until this Saturday. Of course, we plan on skiing even if it snows hard!” According to the forecast, snow is expected to continue through tomorrow.
