The early onset of snow today, occurring before the low-pressure system moves northeast and the winter pressure pattern fully sets in over Hakuba, hinted at the heavy snowfall expected to come later today and continue into tomorrow. Both Route 1, with its firm groomed base, and Route 2 (pictured), with moderately firm groomed surface, offered asy-to-ski, powder-like wet snow conditions.
[Route 2]

Routes 5 and 6 (pictured) featured firmly groomed wet snow. With a quiet start to this weekday morning, I enjoyed gliding freely across the full width of the slopes. Route 7 and the lower section of Route 1 also had moderately compacted groomed wet snow, providing comfortable condiitons from top to bottom.
[Route 6]

As time passed, the temperature dropped, and the snowflakes turned into finer grains. Two visitors from Taiwan (pictured) shared, “Snowboarding is so much fun! We’re surprised by how much the snow has suddenly intensified.” I started skiing with sunglasses on but quickly regretted not switching to goggles.

The upper to lower sections of Route 8 had moderately firm powder-like wet snow grooming, with about 1 cm of slightly moist new snow covering the surface. By the way, the NOVEMBER Test Ride Event will take place on the Toomi Slope from 2/21 (Fri.) to 2/23 (Sun). At the venue, you can try out next season’s snowboard models as well as JIRO helmets and goggles.
