Located at the center of Shiga Kogen, from right to left, you can see Hoppo Bunadaira, Higashidateyama, and Nishidateyama. Due to the powerful cold air mass that moved into the area yesterday, the roads from the Nakano Interchange were frozen and covered in white. After carefully navigating the icy roads, I arrived at the parking lot near the Takamagahara Mammoth Ski Resort, where the thermometer showed a temperature of -13°C.

I took the Takamagahara 2nd Triple and headed to the Higashidateyama Olympic Course (pictured). A skier from overseas, who was the first to hit the pristine slopes, let out multiple enthusiastic shouts of “Woo-hoo!” as they made their way down. The powder was absolutely incredible, with over 50 cm of new snow, reaching all the way up to my knees, offering an amazing sense of flotation.

The Bunadaira Gondola was running, but the Higashidateyama Gondola was halted due to strong winds, so the Bunadaira Slope was quite busy. The moderately packed groomed powder surface of the Bunadaira Slope had 10 to 20 cm of fluffy, fresh snow. Afterwards, I took two lifts from Nishidateyama and headed toward Takamagahara Mammoth.

On the Nishidateyama Hoodie Quad, I met a man from Australia who said, “The snow is amazing today, and tthe summit area is starting to clear up!” The well-packed groomed surface of the Takamagahara Mammoth Slope, which had been exposed to the strong winds, had uneven patches of 5 to 40 cm of fresh snow scattered about. Early in the morning, the cold west wind blew snow from the side, but it gradually weakened, and by around 10 a.m., the sky started to clear.
