Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.02.19460 cm / Cloudy

With the current winter pressure pattern settling over the area, the northern resorts of the HAKUBA VALLEY have been receiving more snowfall as expected! Hakuba Norikura saw an impressive 50 cm of fresh snow yesterday morning, followed by another 40 cm this morning. With calm conditions and soft sunlight filtering through the clouds, the Wakaguri Forest Course (pictured) had a soft, groomed powder surface, and the surrounding trees were blanketed in white too, creating a picturesque scene.

The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) also had a soft, groomed powder base topped with 3 to 5 cm of fresh, light snow. With the No. 11 Pair and No. 5 High-Speed Pair (pictured, right) closed for the day due to snow removal work, the slope remained in pristine condition for an extended period. Those who carved the first tracks surely experienced an indescribable thrill.

Of course, the roughly 40 cm of fluffy powder on the ungroomed sections of the latter half of the Highway Course and the Snake Course was absolutely fantastic. On the Wakaguri Forest Course, students from Kyoto Institute of Technology (pictured) were practicing their group formation skiing in preparation for the student competition scheduled to be held at Iwatake starting on 2/26 (Wed.).

Rewinding back to earlier in the morning—the first skier on the Alps No. High-Speed Pair, from Okaya City (pictured), told me, “I always check Snownavi. After seeing the forecast and slope report, I decided to take the day off—and it was the right call!” On the groomed, moderately soft powder base of the first half of the Highway Course leading into the Kamoshika Course, the 10 cm or so of fresh, fluffy snow made for an exhilarating and smooth ride.

*The Alps No. 9 Pair lift will be out of service for the rest of the season due to mechanical issues. A snow buggy will be running between the 9th Pair Lift base and Wakaguri Central area.
