Who could have predicted the season would turn out like this? The sheer amount of snow has buried lift towers and chairs across the upper areas of the resort, causing extended snow removal work and even the suspensions of the Grat Quad and Kurobishi 3 Pair. Again today, just like yesterday morning, the heavy snowfall overnight had eased by sunrise.
[Panorama Course]

The Panorama (pictured) and Panorama Beginner courses were topped with 5 to 10 cm of fresh, light snow, and offered moderately firm, perfectly powder conditions and an incredibly smooth ride. The ungroomed Olympic Course had 30 to 35 cm of fresh snow on top of the medium-to-large moguls, and though I occasionally tapped the base, the fluffy powder made for some of the best conditions of the season! Both the Sakka Wave and Sakka Slope (pictured) also had moderately packed, highly skiable powder snow.

The lower part of the ski resort was also blessed with plenty of powder snow and excellent skiing conditoins. By the way, this weekend on 2/22 (Sat.), the “MUGEN LINE” event will take place at HAPPO PARKS. (Starts at 10 a.m., free participation.) There will be a photo session, a free riding contest using HAPPO PARKS terrain and features, as well as a test ride event hosted by GARAGE902, featuring next season’s models.

I headed back up via the Sakka Kitaone Quad, which had been delayed, and entered the ungroomed area along the Kitaone 3 Pair lift. By 9:20 a.m., the snow in that area was still smooth and untouched. In fact, the delay in the lift operation meant that there was a higher chance of finding fresh tracks in unexpected areas. I enjoyed carving first tracks in the soft, rolling terrain with 30 to 35 cm of light new snow.
