Today, just like yesterday, we saw an ideal pattern of light, dry snow falling overnight and into the early morning and settling down as the resort opened. This morning I spoke with three guests from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured), who shared, “This is our first time at Goryu47. All three of us are beginners at snowboarding, so we’re a bit nervous.” After taking this photo, they shouted, “It’s cold! But the snow is amazing!” as they headed back to Alice.

The Gondola Line-8 and Line-A started operating on time at 8 a.m., but due to a delay in the operation of Line-C, I headed to the lower part of Route 1 (pictured). The early to middle section had 20 to 25 cm of fluffy new snow on top of a firm groomed base containing a mix of artificial and natural snow, while the latter part, with hard packed, groomed wet snow, was topped with about 2 to 3 cm of light new snow. I enjoyed the changing snow conditions and felt great as I picked up speed.

Line-C started operating at 8:55 a.m., and Line-E began at 9:25 a.m. The lower part of Route 8 (pictured), with a light layer of new snow around 1 to 2 cm deep, had a perfectly packed powder snow surface in fine condition. Later, a snowboarder who came down from Route 3 commented, “I bottomed out on the base a few times, but the 40 or so cm of deep, fluffy snow felt fantastic!”

I also ran into three visitors from Australia (pictured), who told me, “We’re staying in Hakuba for two weeks. Very Good Powder Snow!” The upper part of Route 1 (pictured) had a nicely packed groomed powder surface with a light layer of new snow around 2 to 5c m deep. The ungroomed areas to the side had around 25 to 30cm of fluffy new snow.
