The clear blue sky and wide-open views today perfectly represented Kurumayama! This morning, the ultra (500-meter) wide Family Course (pictured) had a moderately firm, easy-to-ski powder snow base. Incidentally, I was surprised to see the digital display board along the Venus Line showing a temperature of -18.0°C early this morning—a reminder of the super low temperatures typical of this inland highland area.

Today I took the SKY PANORAMA Quad Lift (869m), which started running at 9 a.m., up to the top of Kurumayama (elevation 1,925m). I ran into a group of four from Tokyo (pictured), who shared, “This is our first time at Kurumayama. The snow quality is amazing, and the groomers are really easy to ski!” From the Panorama Course, with its well-packed groomed powder base, I was able to catch a stunning view of Mount Fuji.

I crossed paths with a family from Gunma Prefecture who commented, “We brought our two grandchildren (one of whom is pictured) with us. We were planning to go to Minakami, but the weather didn’t look good, so we chose Kurumayama instead. Just as we hoped, the weather is perfect, and the kids are having a great time.” The Adventure Land had a firm, groomed powder snow surface that was perfect for sledding.

The Sportsman Course, with a maximum slope angle of 38 degrees (pictured, far right), also had a well-packed, groomed powder snow base. Not only were the slopes in great condition, but the cross course on the skier’s right side of the Tres Bien Course was also carefully maintained. By the way, this weekend the Kurumayama Night Race will take place on 2/22 (Sat.), and 2/23 (Sun.) will be the last day of night skiing for the season.
