The second major winter weather system of February arrived on the afternoon of 2/17 (Mon.) and is forecasted to linger throughout the upcoming three-day holiday weekend. This morning, light dry snow was falling on the upper areas of the ski resort. I started my day on the firm, groomed powder snow on the southern route of the Usagidaira Slope (pictured), which provided a smooth and enjoyable ride.

I met a skier from Shizuoka (pictured) who told me, “I always check your reports! I had planned to come for the three-day holiday weekend starting tomorrow, but conditions looked so good today that I took the day off and came early. It was the perfect decision!” Afterward, I skied along the Kurobishi Quad, where the moderately-firm groomed powder snow base offered superb conditions.

The amount of snow this season is incredible. Even while gliding slowly through the gently sloping Glamping Area (pictured), I was captivated by the scenery blanketed in abundant, high-quality snow. Thanks to the excellent snow quality, the sensation underfoot was fantastic too, making this an exceptional season compared to past years. The uneven bases in the ungroomed areas along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, Alpen Quad, and Skyline were covered in soft snow, making for great runs.

Ahead of the MUGEN LINE event happening tomorrow, 2/22 (Sat.), all the terrain features at HAPPO PARKS have been upgraded. The moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface provided great speed, allowing me to carve smoothly into the first bank. Additionally, on 2/22 (Sat.) and 2/23 (Sun.), the Happo Kotatsu Café will be open at Kitaone Kogen, offering a cozy spot to relax.
