Happo-one REPORT

2025.02.24650cm / Partly Sunny

The gondola started running right on schedule at 8 a.m., and as I stepped onto the groomed slopes, I could hear the satisfying crunch of the snow beneath my feet. With that, it was clear that, just like the previous days, the final day of the long weekend had perfect powder conditions. Thanks to overnight radiative cooling, the morning temperature at the top of the resort was a brisk -12°C! I enjoyed skiing down the Panorama Course (pictured), where the groomed powder base was moderately firm and dusted with up to 1 cm of light fresh snow.

Not long after, clouds spread across the sky, and around 8:30 a.m., dry snow began to lightly fall. The groomed areas along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and the Skyline Course had just the right amount of firmness, making for an incredibly smooth ride. The off-piste areas along the Alpen Quad, Kurobishi 3 Pair, and the eastern side of the Skyline Course had 2- to 3 cm of light, fresh snow that added to the fun.

Thanks to the beautiful weather over the long weekend, I received more greetings and waves than usual. One of the comments I got was, “I always check your updates. The groomed conditions are so good today I feel like a better skier!” I skied down from the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track to the Sakka Wave and Shirakaba Slope, and all the way down the well-packed, smooth powder grooming made for a fantastic ride.

Going back to earlier in the morning, on the first track of the day I saw a natural phenomenon called a “sun pillar,” where diamond dust reflected sunlight, creating pillars of light. This occurred on the upper section of the Riesen Slalom Course, which was where HAPPO First Tracks took place. Please note that starting from 2/26 (Wed.), there will be course restrictions in preparation for the Riesen Slalom Competition, which will be held on 2/27 (Thu.) and 2/28 (Fri.).
