This morning, a family from Tokyo, who were riding the 1st Quad (pictured, background), mentioned, “We come here twice a year during the long weekends. The snow quality is great, and it’s easy to ski. It was also the day of the “Tech Test”, a high-level skill certification exam hosted by the Kurohime Snowboarding School, which is a step above the badge test. Two people from Saitama shared, “We’re taking the test with our friends today. We’re hoping to support each other!” There were 10 participants for TECH 1, 15 for TECH 2, and 13 for TECH 3.

The pre-exam training began at 9 a.m., and the atmosphere was tense as the exam started at 12:30 p.m. The exam course (pictured) had a firmed, groomed powder snow surface, with about 5 cm of fresh snow on top. The test consisted of four skills: “Carving Turns Middle,” “Carving Turns Short,” “Freeriding,” and “Short Turns on Uneven Terrain.”

The “Short Turns on Uneven Terrain” test was held in the permanent mogul lane between Leo and Blackbird (third photo, left). A snowboarder from Tokyo, taking the Tech Test 3, shared, “I’ll do my best to pass!” Despite poor visibility due to the falling snow, I was impressed by the advanced riders’ stability and control as they navigated the moguls by feel.
