On 2/23 (Sat.) at 10 a.m., the Alpen Blick Winter Cosplay event took place at Ikenotaira Onsen, with all customers in cosplay receiving a ¥1,000 voucher good at Alpen Blick facilities. After taking a group photo, everyone gathered at the bottom of the Quad Course before descending together as a large group down the Lake View Course (pictured) and Kayaba Slope.

The snow that had been falling during the early morning had lightened, and the weather improved enough for occasional glimpses of sunshine. There were very few people on the 1.8km-long Gouache Tiner Course (1,800m, max 28 degrees, avg 20 degrees), and I took advantage by cruising down to the Happy Slope (pictured, 1,400m, max 21 degrees, avg 8 degrees). The groomed runs featured moderately-packed powder snow surfaces that offered over 3km of smooth and enjoyable riding.

The ultra-wide, open Lake View Course (900m, max 24 degrees, avg 20 degrees) and Kayaba Slope (pictured, 900m, max 18 degrees, avg 8 degrees) also featured easy-to-ski, moderately firm groomed powder bases. On a calm day like today, with almost no wind, I found myself wanting to take multiple laps on the Shirakaba Capsule Pair Lift (1,750m).

The Alpen Blick Snow Park, built on the latter part of the Yamabato Course into the Yamabato Forest Course, featured 23 well-maintained items, and riders were soaring high into the air on the final hip jump. By the way, every Wednesday until 3/26 (Wed.), the “Ike-jo DAY” and “Ike-men DAY” promotions offer a full-day lift ticket for ¥5,000—but if you purchase an advance discount lift ticket, you can get a full-day pass for ¥5,000 anytime!
