It was a chilly morning with the sun alternately hiding and appearing behind the clouds. I spoke with a father from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured), who was the first person to board the Milky Four, and he shared, “I always check your reports! My son has improved, and now we can ski together anywhere—I’m so happy.” Being the middle of a long weekend, visitors arrived early, and by the time the resort opened, 70–80% of the parking lot in front of Base Center IIMORI was already filled.

First thing this morning, the Soft Cream Course (first photo) and Powder Snow Course had moderately firm, groomed powder snow bases. Up at Alps-Daira, the ungroomed areas (pictured) were covered with 10 to 15 cm of fresh, light snow. With no hard base underneath, the fluffy new snow made for an incredibly enjoyable ride.

The groomed Grand Prix (pictured) and Dynamic courses had nice, soft powder snow surfaces! The 1 to 5 cm of fresh snow on top was light, and riders were calling out, “Amazing!” and “This feels incredible!” as they glided down. However, the strong northerly wind occasionally kicked up snow, creating moments of whiteout conditions.

By around 10 a.m. there were longer periods of sunshine, and the surface of the groomed runs in the lower area of the resort had started to soften slightly. At the Friendly Park on the Iimori Slope, a young girl was happily absorbed in sledding (pictured). Her father commented, “We do get snow back home in Gifu, but never this much—she’s absolutely thrilled!”
