The winter weather system that arrived on 2/17 (Mon.) finally moved out of the area on the last day of the long weekend, leaving us with a calm and sunny morning today. While riding the gondola, the contrast between the pure white peaks of the Ushiro-Tateyama mountain range and the clear blue sky was breathtaking. A skier who was the first to hit the moderately-packed groomed powder on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope greeted me saying, “I always check your reports—today is truly a perfect day!”

On the moderately firm groomed powder base of the Han-no-ki Slope, I was able to carve turns at will. TGPARKS, located on the One and Sawa courses (pictured) branching off from Han-no-ki, featured slightly firmer, easy-to-ride packed powder. With well-maintained park features, I was able to hit each one with confidence. *Please note that TGPARKS will be closed for a rebuild from 2/27 (Thu.) to 2/28 (Fri.).

I ran into a group from Kanagawa Prefecture, who told me, “We’re a group of nine who work together, and we drove eight hours to come ski and board at Tsugaike. We’re hitting the slopes all day today and stopping by Matsumoto City tomorrow on our way back. The wide, well-groomed runs make it easy to ski and perfect for practice!” The Maruyama Slope and Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) both had moderately-firm, easy-to-ride groomed powder snow.

This morning, I also met a skier from Aichi Prefecture who commented, “I always check your reports. I have a HAKUBAVALLEY season pass. I’m taking a lesson at the Tsugaike Ski School this morning and heading to Happo in the afternoon.” (That’s a great way to make the most of the pass!) Today, the east side of the Central Parking Lot was closed for snow removal, so by 10 a.m., the west side was nearly full.
