Today we saw the first clear skies since 2/15 (Sat.), after an eight-day winter weather system that had been lingering over Japan since 2/17 (Mon.) finally dissipated. With strong radiative cooling overnight, the morning was bitterly cold. Carving first tracks on the firm, groomed powder snow on the upper part of Route 1 (pictured), my edges gripped the surface beautifully, making for an incredibly smooth ride.

Expecting bitter cold, I dressed in the same layers as yesterday morning, but with no wind and sunshine, I broke a sweat after just two runs. The pristine white peak of Mt. Goryu (pictured) was absolutely stunning, and many skiers and snowboarders could be seen snapping photos around the Line-C summit area and the upper section of Route 8 (pictured) with their smartphones and cameras.

On the north-facing Hakuba 47, the lower section of Route 8 remains mostly shaded during the morning, and today offered a moderately firm, groomed base of exquisite powder that I took my time savoring. Routes 5 and 6 also had moderately packed, groomed powder surfaces. Meanwhile, the lower section of Route 1 had a firm groomed base that contained a mix of artificial snow, and there were some ¥small snow clumps of snow scattered across the surface.

47PARKS will be closed today and tomorrow for a makeover. With the major FIS-certified event “COWDAY SLOPE 2025” kicking off on 2/27 (Thu.), the park is set to receive a significant upgrade. Inside the park, diggers were hard at work using heavy machinery and snow groomers to make the most of the abundant snowfall.
