This morning, a member of the ski patrol mentioned, “Up until yesterday, the slopes were soft, but this morning they’re a bit firm. By the way, thanks to the abundant snowfall this season, the Third Slope is a little wider than usual.” Though skies were clear around 7 a.m., clouds gradually spread from the west, and by 7:30 a.m., light, dry snow had started to fall.

I spoke with a snowboarder from Aichi, who shared, “I always come and ride the Expert Course. Today, the surface is firm and easy to carve on.” The well-packed powder surface on the groomed Expert Course (pictured) had an ultra-flat finish, and it was impressive to see advanced riders making precise turns with solid edge control.

A couple from Shizuoka (pictured) commented, “We follow Snownavi on social media (Instagram & X). Yesterday, the runs were soft and got chopped up a little, but this morning, the firm conditions make for smooth skiing.” The Rinkan Course, which bypasses the Expert Course, and the First Slope also had firm, groomed powder bases.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency’s most recent one-month forecast, temperatures from 2/22 (Sat.) to 3/21 (Fri.) are expected to be “around average” across both eastern and western Japan and “higher than average” in northern Japan. However, Shiga Kogen remains exceptionally cold, with biting winds! Unlike the crowded Third Slope and Downhill Course, the quieter Fourth Slope (pictured) had well-groomed powder with a pleasantly soft feel.
