This morning, wind was blowing intermittently from the south, and the sky gradually cleared around 9 a.m., revealing sunshine that made for a comfortable day. Ski and snowboard lessons were taking place on the Sekimi Slope (pictured), and the moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface had already begun to soften. I utilized the full width of the slope and enjoyed making large, sweeping turns.

Akakura Onsen’s Downhill Chuo Course (pictured) starts off with a gentle slope that almost makes you want to skate cross country style, before gradually steepening in the middle. I noticed beginner snowboarders taking advantage of the wide course for practice. While many skiers opted for the Slalom Course paralleling the Downhill Chuo Course, this area remained relatively quiet.

The north-facing Utopia A Course (pictured) and B Course both featured groomed powder-like wet snow. My edges gripped well and skis glided smoothly, and turns felt great. On 3/9 (Sun.), Utopia A is set to host the All-Japan Mogul Championship “Akakura no Ran.”

Going back to the early morning, I spoke with a snowboarder from Shizuoka (pictured), who shared, “I always check your updates! I like Akakura Onsen because it’s close to the highway interchange and isn’t too crowded in the morning. The snow is a bit damp today, but it’s easy to ride.” The Panorama Course featured a moderately compacted powder-like wet snow base.
