Hakuba Sanosaka’s well-maintained and easy-to-ride slopes create a sense of spaciousness. The wide-open atmosphere of each course is very satisfying, and makes for a truly enjoyable skiing experience! Today, under a clear blue sky, it was a comfortable morning with mild temperatures and no wind.

The moderately packed groomed powder snow surfaces of Lake View and Lake Down (pictured) began to soften as early as 8:30 a.m. due to their east-facing orientation. Many skiers getting off the 3rd Quad seemed to be in awe of the pristine white slopes and the stunning view of Aoki Lake, pausing to take it all in before making their descent.

The groomed sections of New Paradise, both in the center of the northern side (pictured) and the southern side of the 5th Pair, had fantastic, moderately firm powder conditions! And, as of 9 a.m., the surface had not yet softened. I was impressed watching advanced skiers as they made laps using the 5th Pair, and carved wide, powerful turns on their way down.

Paradise (pictured), Paradise Downhill, and the Carving Slope offered moderately firm, easy-to-ride groomed powder bases in the early morning. The surfaces here began to soften around 9:30 a.m. In other news, the 3rd Annual Alpine Ski Waseda-Keio Competition will take place from 3/1 (Sat.) to 3/2 (Sun.), and course restrictions will be in place on the skier’s right side of Lake Down to Lake View.
