The Demonstration Skiing category of this year’s “National Student Ski Competition Iwatake” has been blessed with clear skies for both the first day’s individual qualifying yesterday 2/27 (Thu.), and today’s main individual competition! The competition today saw a total of 690 competitors—300 men and 100 women who advanced from the preliminaries, joined by 208 seeded men and 82 seeded women.

The top performer in yesterday’s men’s preliminary A was Honda-san from the Kokushikan University Edelweiss Ski Club (pictured). He shared, “I was able to finish the preliminaries in first place, but with the seeded athletes joining the main competition onward, I can’t let my guard down. I’ll do my best to break into the top ranks.” Meanwhile, the top spot in Men’s Preliminary B went to Hasegawa-san from Hokkaido University’s Elegant Ski Club.

The men’s and women’s “Parallel Short Turns” competition took place on the Two Top Course, while the upper section of Kamoshika Racing hosted the women’s “Parallel Short Turns with Rhythm Changes”. Simultaneously, the “Comprehensive Descent” categories of competition for men and women were underway on the lower section of Kamoshika Racing (pictured, foreground) and Big Bahn, respectively. Meanwhile, the Men’s “Parallel Short Turns with Rhythm Changes” were held at Up Bahn. Loud cheers from spectators in front of White Plaza encouraged the competing athletes as they performed.

Shimanuki-san from Nippon Sport Science University’s Kiso Ski Club (pictured), who topped the Women’s Preliminary B, shared, “My Comprehensive Descent run went well, but I couldn’t score as high in the Short Turns event. I’m confident I’ll make it to the finals, so I’ll give it my all until the end!” Tomorrow’s Individual Performance Finals will feature three events: “Comprehensive Descent,” “Parallel Long Turns,” and “Parallel Short Turns.”
