The qualifying rounds for COWDAY SLOPE 2025 have kicked off on the 47PARKS competition course (pictured)! This is the only international slopestyle competition held in Japan this season and plays a role in the selection process for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Spectators can watch from the course sidelines and lifts, and the finals on 3/1 (Sat.) will also be streamed live on YouTube.

Competitors are judged based on five criteria: difficulty, amplitude, execution, variety, and progression. This year the event features 36 male and 17 female riders, including invited athletes Kira Kimura, Yuto Miyamura, Kiara Morii, Momo Suzuki, Rina Yoshika, and Hanato Minamiya (listed in no particular order). This morning, the start area (pictured) was filled with a tense and focused atmosphere.

This year’s setup includes, from top to bottom: 2-way 8m and 10m down rails, a 16m step-down kicker (pictured), a 14m step-up kicker, a 2-way 10m flat rail and cannon, a 4-way donkey rail, a standard rail, a wall, and a staple rail. The highlight, as you might expect, was the two kickers, where riders soared high into the air, executing impressive tricks that kept all eyes glued to the action.

The open practice session before the main event was just as exciting, and with no judging involved, riders hit the features in quick succession—making for a thrilling spectacle. On 3/1 (Sat.), open practice starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men’s and women’s finals at 11:00 a.m. By late morning, the groomed wet snow surfaces on Route 4, 5, and 6 had softened, while the lower section of Route 1 became even looser, with a slushy feel underfoot.
