Today, we welcomed the first day of March with a third consecutive day of clear skies. I ran into the owner of THE SATELLITE CAFÉ (pictured, right), who commented, “Today is a perfect day to hit the slopes.” Located at the base of the Satomi Central Slope, the café offers roasted coffee, a variety of hot sandwiches, sweets, and carefully selected snowboarding gear for sale.

The snow that softened during yesterday’s warm temperatures had turned into granular snow and was pressed down by the groomers today. First thing this morning, the Highway and Kamoshika courses were hard packed. The surfaces of the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) and Rabbit Course, which both face the rising sun, had already begun to softened by 8:30 a.m., when the 5th High-Speed Pair began operation.

That said, all the groomed slopes had perfectly flat finishes and very smooth skiing conditions. The Cross Course along the 5th Pair was also very well-maintained. After experiencing a sensation of weightlessness on the large 4-part wave section (pictured), I enjoyed the feeling of carving through the banked turns that followed.

The free snow buggy running between Satomi Central and Wakaguri Central (pictured) was extremely popular. From the continuous line of people waiting to board, I overheard someone say, “It’s not just a mode of transportation, it’s more like an attraction in and of itself.” It takes about 5 to 10 minutes for a round trip, so you might think walking would be faster, but even I couldn’t resist staying in line for the experience.
