There was no need, or rather no chance, to warm up before diving right into the glorious powder that awaited me for my first tracks this morning! Today operation of both the Alpen Quad and Kurobishi Quad kicked off for the season, and the Usagidaira and Kurobishi slopes opened up to skiers and snowboarders. are now open for skiing. I spotted one person after another getting off the Alpen Quad and bombing down the steep slope along the lift (pictured) and through the silently falling snow.
[Usagidaira]
There was around 40 cm of new snow on the ground, and together with the snow that’s fallen so far, the soft powder layer was deep enough to easily bury a 110 cm ski pole. I heard a ski patroller exclaiming how great of a day it was, and he was so right; the feeling of floating atop the soft snow surface was incredible.
[Usagidaira]
The moderately firm, groomed powder snow surfaces along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and on the southern half of Usagidaira had about 15cm of fluffy new snow, which flowed smoothly over my skis as I gained speed. I met a skier from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I love your site. I bought a season ticket this year, so Happo is now my home resort. I lucked out with such a fantastic day today!”
[Kurobishi]
There was approximately 40cm of soft fresh snow on the ungroomed area to skiers’ left of the Kurobishi Quad and alongside the Kurobishi 3 Pair. In other news, a staff member working the Skyline 2 Pair told me they were about to inspect the Skyline course and may be able to open it tomorrow. (It is now confirmed that the Skyline Course will open up tomorrow!)
[Kurobishi]
