Madarao REPORT

At Madarao, the grooming machines continue working on the slopes right up until the resort opens. As a result, if you enter from the day-use-only No. 7 Parking Lot (which accommodates 900 vehicles) and head towards the Utopia area, you’re most certainly going to encounter a very freshly groomed piste. After taking this photo, I met a local woman who told me, “Snownavi comes to report even on days without powder, huh? Haha! The new snow from yesterday and the fresh grooming today have made the slopes really easy to ski.”

The Crystal Course had easy-to-ski groomed snow (pictured). Digging down revealed a harder, wet snow layer underneath, but the top 5 cm was made up of moderately firm powder. Two guests from Kanagawa commented, “It snowed at Shiga Kogen on Sunday. Thankfully, it didn’t rain. The groomed slopes at Madarao are smooth and easy to ski on.” Today the Giant and Champion slopes had groomed wet snow bases with a powdery feel.

The hoarfrost covering the trees on the upper part of the ski resort was so beautiful that I changed my original plan and took the No. 13 Lift (pictured). As I headed toward the summit, the white grew more intense, and I overheard other passengers saying things like, “It’s so beautiful!”, “You can see the sea!”, and “It’s a bit scary when you look back.”

The Ocean View Course (pictured) was similar to Crystal, with a packed wet snow base layer and 5 cm of moderately firm powder snow on top. I had a conversation with a group of five from Tokyo and Kanagawa, who shared, “We came here using an Orion Tour “My Car” Plan. Yesterday, we were surrounded by fog and couldn’t see a thing, but this morning, the visibility is great, and the mountains look beautiful. The snow is great too!” By around 10 a.m., the area started growing more lively with groups of young people.
