It’s the time of year when university students on package tours are becoming more noticeable. I met a group of students today from Nara Prefecture (pictured), who shared, “This is our first time in Hakuba on a bus tour, and we’re really worried about whether we can actually snowboard, since it’s all so new to us.” For those with such concerns, I highly recommend the Hakuba47 Snowboard School’s beginner lessons (half-day for JPY5,000)!
[Lower Portion of Route 1]

Starting today, the resort has entered its Spring Discount period, with lift tickets priced at ¥7,000 for adults, JPY6,000 for children ages 13 to 17, and JPY3,500 for ages 6 to 12. In addition, Spring Night Skiing begins tonight on the Toomi Slope, with tickets priced at JPY2,000 for adults and JPY1,000 for children 6 to 17. Please note, beginning on 3/13 (Thu.), course restrictions will be in place on the Toomi Slope in preparation for the Burton Mystery Series event on 3/16 (Sun.).
[Lower Portion of Route 8]

I spoke with two guests from Oita and Shiga Prefectures (pictured) who told me, “We always read your reports! For us, today is the best day of the season! We’re going to be lapping Route 2!” On Route 2, I was able to execute smooth, controlled turns at will on the firm, groomed granular snow surface.
[Route 2]

Route 6 (pictured), Route 5, and the lower part of Route 8 also had firm, groomed granular snow bases, similar to Route 2. On Route 5, a 2 to 3 cm layer of artificial snow had accumulated on top as part of the effort to maintain conditions during the spring season. On the lower part of Route 1, the hard packed, groomed corn snow had developed a thin layer of surface snow shaved off by the edges of skiers and boarders as of 9 a.m.
