The Tsugaike Ropeway Early Spring Operation, which had been postponed due to avalanche risk, got underway yesterday, 3/9 (Sun)! This morning, people dressed in backcountry gear boarded the gondola as it was set for its first departure. Please note that to ride the ropeway, you will need a separate ticket in addition to a lift pass for the resort, along with submitting a mountaineering plan. (※One-way for adults is ¥760 yen, ¥380 for children).

The ropeway will operate daily until 3/31 (Mon.), on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4/4 (Fri.) to 4/27 (Sun.), and every day from 4/28 (Mon.) to 5/6 (Tue., holiday). This season, with so much snow up high, you’re sure to have a fantastic time! On the well-packed, groomed wet snow bases of Tsuga-no-mori and Gotemba (pictured), I was able to glide smoothly and pick up speed with ease.

The Han-no-ki Slope had a similarly firm, groomed wet snow base up top, but the snow surface became softer as I descended. The Oya-no-hara Slope was groomed with fine-grained granular snow. By the way, this weekend, 3/16 (Sun.), is Kids Ski Day where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free!

There are only 5 days left until the deadline for the Tsugaike Favorite Restaurant Championship on 3/14 (Fri). Lulu’s Raclette, located in Tsugaike Yokocho, offers a delicious, crispy baguette filled with melted cheese, juicy ham, and pickles called “The Alps” (pictured, ¥1,900).
