Akakura Onsen REPORT

2025.03.10400 cm / Sunny

On the shuttle bus from the Akakura parking lot to the Kumado Info Center, the driver mentioned, “It’s been a while since we’ve had such clear skies! Looks like the temperature will rise today.” This morning, the Panorama Course (pictured) featured a moderately firm, groomed wet snow base at the start, transitioning to firm wet snow mixed with granular spring-like snow toward the middle and end. Along the way, if you turn left just before the Kumado No. 3 Pair Lift exit (pictured, far right)…

…you’ll find the Rabbit Course (pictured, 760m, max 23°, avg 10°)! The initial section is a bit steep, but after that, it gives way to a comfortable, groomed mid-to-gentle angle slope. Today, the north-facing course had a groomed wet snow base with a powder-like feel. On weekdays when the Kumado No. 3 Pair isn’t running, skiing down this course requires connecting via the Ginrei No. 3 Pair and the Kumado No. 1 Quad to return, making it an incredibly quiet hidden gem.

The Sekimi Slope (pictured), Slalom Course, and Downhill Central Course had groomed wet snow surfaces that were already slightly soft at the start of operations as they faced the morning sun directly. Meanwhile, the Utopia A and B courses featured groomed wet snow with a pleasant powder-like feel, providing a soft and satisfying sensation underfoot.

The Elegant Course (pictured) had a groomed granular snow surface, with shaded areas feeling slightly moist and sunlit sections becoming looser and more slushy. By the way, 3/16 (Sun.) marks the final Kids Ski Day of the season, where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free all day! Additionally, a Kids’ Treasure Hunt event will take place at the Kids’ Snow Park on the Yodel Slope starting at 1:30 p.m.
