Tsugaike REPORT

2025.03.12345 cm / Mostly Sunny

Spring offers its own unique ways to enjoy the slopes! I rain into the head instructor of Sky Blue Happo-One Paragliding School (pictured, left), who commented, “Hey there Snownavi! This is a sport called ‘speed riding.’ Since you don’t fly too high, no license is required, and as long as you can ski, anyone can give it a try.” I watched enthralled as the large colorful wings soared into the hazy sky.

The head instructor also mentioned, “Since permission from the ski resort and schedule adjustments are required to use the course, those interested should first contact our school.” Watching someone lift off about 20 meters above the slope sparked my curiosity, and I couldn’t help but think how amazing it would be to gaze at the Northern Alps from the winter sky.

By the way, the voting deadline for the Tsugaike Favorite Restaurant Championship is 3/14 (Fri.), just two days away! Kitchen Tsuga-no-mori, seen on the right in the photo, is included among the 20 participating restaurants in Tsugaike. Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair lift first thing this morning (pictured), the groomed snow was a mix of slightly granular spring snow and wet snow. On the mid-to-lower sections of Han-no-ki, as well as the Shirakaba, Karamatsu, Champion, and Oya-no-hara slopes, the surface of the groomed granular snow had softened, offering classic spring conditions.

At the top of the ski resort, light snowfall overnight left 1 to 3 cm of moist new snow on the ungroomed areas. On the Tsuga-no-mori Slope and the adjoining Gotemba Course (pictured), the groomed bases were moderately packed with pleasant powder-like wet snow, creating ideal conditions for smooth and enjoyable turns!
