REPORT

It was a nice, warm sunny start to the day, with clouds stretched across a good portion of the sky. When I arrived at the parking lot at 7:30 a.m., my car’s thermometer was already showing +2°C, so I took off one inner layer before heading out for reporting. The first skier I met, from Nagano City (pictured, foreground), told me, “I always follow your updates. The spring-like weather feels great, and the slopes are easy to ski on.”

Gentle winds from the west occasionally swept across the Mountain Side, and felt pleasantly refreshing. On the South Slope (pictured), the hard packed, groomed corn snow surface made for smooth turns, though I had to be mindful not to pick up too much speed. The main ridgeline of the Northern Alps, which was clearly visible around the start of operations, gradually became shrouded in clouds as the morning went on.

Early in the morning, most people were looping runs via the gondola, leaving the South Slope (pictured) relatively empty. The east-facing East Slope had a moderately soft, groomed corn snow surface right from the start of the day. Meanwhile, the firm, groomed corn snow base of the Sunny Valley Course gradually softened as I skied down.

The shaded areas of VIEW C (pictured) and VIEW D had well-packed groomed granular snow surfaces. By the way, this Sunday, 3/16, is Kids Ski Day, where elementary school children can ride the lifts for free! Also, starting 3/17 (Mon.), the Spring Discount period begins, with one-day lift tickets priced ¥5,000 for adults and ¥2,500 for elementary school-age children.
