Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.03.13355 cm / Sunny

It was a pleasant, sunny morning with a light north wind that felt quite pleasant, and warmer than yesterday. I met a skier from Gifu Prefecture (pictured) who shared, “I always use the Snownavi site. I feel lucky to have run into a reporter! I usually ski at Hida Nagareha Ski Resort, but their season ended on 3/9 (Sun.), so I’ve been coming to Hakunori since then.”

With a significant drop in international visitors this week compared to last, the morning crowd was exceptionally light. The expansive slopes, with ample snow coverage and excellent grooming, made for an incredibly luxurious experience in the quiet morning hours. I enjoyed carving smooth, flowing turns on the Satomi Central Slope (pictured), where the groomed surface was composed of granular spring snow.

A man from Suzaka City (pictured) told me in conversation, “I’ve been on the Snownavi site before. I usually ski in the Myoko area, but today I came out here to meet up with some friends. It’s my first time at Hakunori in a while. Even at this time of year, the snow quality in the Hakuba area is still better.” Wakaguri Central, Highway, and Kamoshika all featured groomed, slushy corn snow surfaces.

“I used my day off to come and ski at Hakunori for the first time… It’s so empty here, which is nice,” was the comment from a staff member from the Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort (pictured). Plenty of snow, well-groomed slopes, remarkably empty — that’s Hakunori on a March weekday! Even after I finished my report, groomed corduroy patterns were still visible in many spots.
