Although there’s still plenty of snow in the fields at the base of the resort, the roads in the area have become much easier to drive on, with only a few patches of snow and ice remaining. The sun that was shining around 7 a.m. this morning gradually disappeared behind the clouds, and by the time the resort opened, the sky was overcast. Some trees along the ridge, where clouds likely lingered overnight, were adorned with frost, and the air felt chilly across both the upper and lower slopes.

The Han-no-ki Slope had well-packed, groomed granular snow from the top to the mid-section (pictured), while the lower section (first photo) featured a harder, groomed granular base. My edges held securely, and I enjoyed carving from top to bottom on the roughly 3 km-long run. The ungroomed steep section on the skier’s right side had a firm, uneven surface marked with bumps.

The Shirakaba Slope had a hard packed, groomed granular snow surface similar to the lower section of Han-no-ki. The Oya-no-hara (pictured) and Karamatsu slopes had firm, groomed granular snow. Oya-no-hara was lively with beginners and novice skiers, and a student visiting from Tokyo shared, “We’re beginners, so we’re practicing here today and planning to take the gondola up tomorrow.”

Although it’s mid-March, visitors arrived early today, and by 9 a.m., both the Central Parking Lot and Champion Parking Lot were full. The TGPARKS area, currently open on the Han-no-ki Slope’s One and Sawa courses, is typically relocated to the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair lift area (pictured) in late March. Also, don’t forget that tomorrow is Kids Ski Day, where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free!
