I spoke with a snowboarder from Nagano’s Chino City (pictured), who shared, “I always check your updates! I’m so passionate about snowboarding that I moved here from Yamaguchi Prefecture three years ago. I come to Royal Hill every weekend to practice gate training.” A weak, cold northerly breeze was blowing this morning, and the clear sky gradually grew overcast, seemingly ready to bring snowfall at any moment.

The Panorama A and B courses (first photo) featured hard, groomed granular snow bases. The groomed Panorama C slope had a well-packed surface to start with, with the middle to lower sections along the No. 3 Pair Lift (pictured, foreground) having a moderately soft base. I ran into a snowboarder from Yamanashi Prefecture (pictured) who commented, “The scenery is beautiful! I come to Royal Hill often to ride. I want to improve my skills, so I’ve invested in high-quality gear.”

In other news, the 5th Annual Shirakabako Royal Hill Kids Slalom Competition, for elementary school age children and younger, will be held on the Panorama C course on 3/16 (Sun.)! The groomed Alpen course featured moderately soft granular snow that provided a smooth and easy-to-ski surface. Night skiing on this course will be available for just two more days, today and tomorrow.

I ran into two visitors from Aichi Prefecture who mentioned, “We always read your reports! On the first run, the snow was a bit hard, and the weather made it slightly difficult to see the snow surface. Since we have company housing in Suwa City, we often ski at Royal Hill and Kurumayama Kogen.” Currently, with an official base depth of 90 cm, there were no areas on any of the slopes where thin snow coverage was a concern.
